Pacuare Lodge

Place:

Pacuare River, Costa Rica

Placemakers:

Jack and Flavia Loeb

Ethos:

A riverside sanctuary in Costa Rica’s pristine rainforest.

Böëna was created especially for travelers with a purpose. It was conceived so that the paradises where they operate will be there for the enjoyment and wonder of generations to come. The owners, Jack and Flavia Loeb, are committed to offering guests transformative experiences while preserving nearly 2,000 acres of forest.

Sustainability is the reason Böëna exists. Since its inception, their objective has been to contribute to the conservation of some of the most biodiverse places on the planet. All construction is performed in a sustainable manner. They generate their own clean electricity and heat their water with solar power. And the vast majority of the staff are local residents.

Pacuare Lodge is a luxury eco-lodge with only 20 suites situated on the banks of one of the most scenic white-water wonders of the world, the Pacuare River. This unparalleled location, with its vibrant nature, offers a scenic backdrop to adventure, romance, and wellness. Simple, yet sophisticated, the indigenous Cabécar-inspired architecture, pristine rainforest, farm-to-table cuisine, and luxurious, well-appointed accommodations come together to offer an extraordinary experience.

The villas enable you to be immersed in the tropical rainforest—with elegant designs, teak furniture, terraces, outdoor showers, and ultimate sensorial experiences. Relax in a hammock and take in views of the sweeping jungle that surrounds your accommodation. Cool off in a private, spring-fed pool. And savor moments amidst exuberant, tropical greenery. Each suite was built with special attention to the topography so that guests can enjoy gorgeous views of the river and forest from every spot.

Today, Böëna is a network that unites five spectacular sites under the same concept. Starting with Pacuare Lodge, they added Lapa Ríos in the Osa Peninsula, Monteverde Lodge & Gardens and Cloud Forest Lodge in Monteverde, and Tortuga Lodge in Tortuguero. Five hotels with the same vision: to protect as much forest as possible, and to make sustainable tourism a successful strategy for the development of local communities.
